Security

With the increasing capability and capacity of mobile devices and smartphones, an increasing amount of sensitive data is distributed to the devices. It is only natural that management are paranoid about employees losing their devices through theft or negligence1. With the consistent high security in DME, employees can bring any type of business critical information along without compromising confidential data.

End-to-end encryption:

  • All data transferred over the air between the DME server and the device is encrypted using the HTTPS protocol.
  • On the device, all data is encrypted with 128-bit AES encryption.
  • Login is only possible with username and password authenticated by the collaboration system (Exchange or Notes), optionally using secure LDAP lookup.
  • Support for Mobile VPN.
  • Two-factor authentication with RSA tokens.

Active security:
The active security features can be controlled by the DME administrator, enabling you to tailor the security according to your corporate security policies.

  • Erase all data protected by DME in case the SIM card is removed or changed.
  • Erase all data protected by DME after a number of invalid login attempts (number of permitted attempts set by DME administrator).
  • Automatically log out of DME after a period set by the DME administrator.
  • Control access to changing DME settings.
  • Control access to applications and networks connections (Bluetooth, cable…) on the device.
  • Erase all data on the device remotely, in case the device is lost or stolen.
  • Block collaboration-related applications (calendar, e-mail, etc.) unless you are logged into DME.
  • Shell protection – you cannot use the phone for anything but emergency calls unless you are logged into DME.
  • Multiple SIM card support, in order to preserve the same security level and yet allow users the flexibility to use more than one SIM card.

1 And with good reason: Studies from England show that almost 55,000 mobile devices were lost over a period of six months in 2006 – in London taxis alone!
